Research Review at St. Mary's Hospital Center
By law, all research protocols conducted at St. Mary’s Hospital Center must be registered with the Research Review Office, and must be reviewed and approved by the Research Ethics Committee (REC) of St. Mary’s Hospital Center. Projects may not begin until they have received a letter of Full Institutional Approval from the St. Mary’s Research Review Office. Our staff is available to guide you through all of the important steps of submitting your protocol for review.
The Research Review Office is located in room 4710 in the Norma and Robert Hayes Pavilion (“Annex”). The Secretary of the Research Review Office coordinates the entire protocol submission and review process. She can be reached at (514) 345-3511 ext 3698, or by email at rebecca.macdonald.chsm@ssss.gouv.qc.ca
Research Ethics Committee (REC)
The Research Ethics Committee (REC) is an administrative body established to protect the rights and welfare of human subjects in research activities conducted under the auspices of the Hospital. The REC is under the authority of the Board of Directors of the St. Mary’s and operates independently of the Research Centre. Please click here to view the current membership of the REC.

Regulatory Framework in Health Research
The Regulatory Framework incorporates an integrated set of research policy and procedures, in keeping with the Plan d’action ministériel en éthique de la recherche et en intégrité scientifique, and the Tri-Council Policy Statement: Ethics Conduct for Research Involving Humans (TCPS). Since approved research at St. Mary’s Hospital becomes the responsibility of the Hospital, St. Mary’s researchers are required to follow the procedures described in the Regulatory Framework.
Please refer to the abridged version of the Regulatory Framework for the conduct of research at St. Mary's Hospital Center. This version provided a brief summary of the main research policies at St. Mary's Hospital Center. To access the full version of the Framework, please contact the Research Review Office at (514) 345-3511 ext. 3698.
